Rampion Offshore Wind Farm

Location: Rampion offshore wind farm is located in the English Channel, 13 kilometres off the Sussex coast and stretches from East Worthing in the west of Brighton in the East

Size: Rampion comprises 116 turbines on a 70 square kilometre site, each with an output of 3.45 megawatts.

Power output: The wind farm is capable of generating at least 400 megawatts of green electricity, enough to meet the average daily needs of almost 409,000 UK households or about half the households in Sussex.

Project Scope:

  • Survey and contract management for the development and construction of the Rampion offshore wind farm together with Survey consultancy as required.
  • Provision of several construction support personnel including an onshore Project Surveyor and field-based construction support personnel.

Responsibilities and Services Encompassed:

  • Overall responsibility for project seabed preparation and construction survey control
  • Contract management of projects including scope of work preparation, evaluation, award, and Consultant QHSE document review and implementation
  • Package Manager (Site Investigation) for multi vessel UXO investigation and clearance, geophysical, geotechnical, depth of burial & consent surveys
  • Project Engineer for cable protection (rock bag/subsea rock installation), boulder clearance & dredging operations
  • Establishment and management of project survey resources including internal survey department (dedicated survey CTV and field surveyors for MBES, SSS and DoB data acquisition and analysis)
  • Support Contract management of construction support functions including:
    • Management of RTK base station installation and maintenance contract
    • MetOcean buoy supply, install and maintain contract
    • Construction site markings (AtoN) supply, install and maintain contract
    • CTV strategic procurement and management
  • Survey consultancy supporting all Package Managers (inter array & export cable installation, offshore substation, WTG foundations etc.)
  • Fisheries Liaison
  • Provision of Offshore Supervisors

Project Benefit:

Hydrofix contributed to the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm project through the provision of construction support personnel, including a Project Surveyor and Construction Project Manager with support from the wider geoscience team.

We assumed overall responsibility for seabed preparation and construction survey control, ensuring adherence to standards. Our contract management expertise supported Rampion offshore wind farm with specific survey and construction knowledge to mitigate risks.

As Package Manager for Site Investigation, we managed multi-vessel surveys, including UXO, geophysical, and geotechnical campaigns together with management of cable protection, boulder clearance, and dredging operations demonstrating our wide range of capability across all elements of wind farm development and construction.

Hydrofix established and managed survey resources, including an internal department for data acquisition and analysis, ensuring data integrity and informed decision-making. Survey consultancy support across project components ensured seamless coordination, while fisheries liaison activities promoted positive stakeholder relationships.
