Location: Shetland Islands, Fair Isle, Orkney Isles, Inner Hebrides

Size: 16 new telecommunication cables to connect 15 Scottish islands and extend superfast broadband (30 Megabits per second (Mbps)) coverage

Provision of several construction support personnelProject Scope:

  • Provision of survey support and in field construction support personnel for the nearshore/onshore cable installation operations of multiple landfalls
  • Onshore Project Surveyor, data management and as-built position reporting

Responsibilities and Services Encompassed:

Include managing technical, commercial and HSE aspects.

  • Client’s Geospatial Consultant liaising directly with their Client
  • Supply, management, and supervision of all construction support survey activities
  • QC review of all acquired data and dissemination of information to an online GIS portal
  • Preparation of all final as-built geospatial data for the end Client

Project Benefit:

Hydrofix contributed to the successful implementation of BT’s R100 project by providing construction support personnel, including an onshore Project Surveyor and field-based teams to the nearshore installation contractor. Our expertise in nearshore survey and construction support activities ensured a smooth execution to the project.

As the Client’s Geoscience Consultant, our comprehensive management and supervision of the survey activities guaranteed reliable data and reporting to enable our Client and the Purchasing Client to be fully informed to allow quick decision making during the installation programme. This was further aided via efficient data dissemination through an online GIS portal.

BT’s ambitions of extending superfast broadband coverage to remote areas of Scotland is well underway!
